Kies Cultuur (Choose Culture)

Culture is everywhere in Leiden — in theatres, museums, music venues, creative spaces, on the streets and in neighbourhoods. It brings people together, sparks imagination, and keeps our city vibrant and moving.

At the same time, culture in Leiden is under pressure. Artists and cultural organisations that give our city its colour are having to do more with fewer resources. Investing in culture is actually investing in wellbeing, connection and the future of Leiden.

The municipal elections on 18 March 2026 are the moment to show that culture is essential to our city. Creators, organisations, audiences and residents — together we can show that culture matters.

So this is the time to make your voice heard: choose culture!

About the campaign

Kies Cultuur Leiden is a public campaign initiated by Cultuurtafel Leiden, a network of cultural organisations and makers in the city.

In the lead-up to the Leiden municipal elections 2026, we highlight the importance of culture for Leiden: for creativity, wellbeing, social connection and a vibrant city life.

We encourage residents to take culture into account when voting and call on political parties to give culture a strong, structural place in future policy and funding.

Together, we work towards a strong and sustainable cultural future for Leiden.

Cultuurtafel Leiden
